| This month we focus on Tom Pugles of Doylestown, PA. Tom is almost 80 years young and uses his Twist N'Go LS49 for his personal transportation. Tom has "been there and done that" having spent time in our Navy, the Pennsylvania State Police and over 25 years as an educator at Palisades High School. As a bike rider, Tom once told me, "We are doing what the President wants us to do - saving gas!" He's a smart guy! By using his scooter, he is not only saving gas money but also insurance dollars and open space. Insurance on a small scooter is generally very attractive versus a car. Plus, they are nimble. Tom now turns to his bike to go when he wants and where he wants in Doylestown. As we saw in the Great Doylestown Gas Mileage Demo, small scooters are particularly attractive in many of our towns in the Philadelphia area where growing populations are outpacing the infrastructure improvements - effectively lowering the average driving speeds right into the realm of 50cc scooters like Tom's with a 35-40mph top speed and up to 100 mpg economy. Parking is another issue as another MPG Motors demonstration put nine scooters and motorcycles into a parking spot that had held the MPG Motors Ford F-150 (see the picture here). Tom parks his scooter on a porch! Finally, as the LS49 is a 50cc motor-driven cycle with an automatic transmission, owners like Tom don't need a motorcycle endorsement on their license. A valid PA's driver's license will do. Tom knows all that, that is why he rides the LS49. Together, Tom and his LS49 fit in with the traffic and stand out in a crowd.
