We tell all our customers that visit us how well scooters and motorcycles can fit in our local area: towns
like Quakertown, Sellersville, Perkasie, Dublin, New Hope and on and on. Doylestown is a prime
example of the type of town where residents can really save gas while having fun by using scooters to
either augment their car, truck or SUV or as a primary vehicle! These scooters sip gasoline, are very
inexpensive to insure (average $85/year) and take up a fraction of the space that a car does of our
crowded roads and in our parking areas. Some scooters only require a PA automobile license (ask us)!
On Sunday, June 11, I decided to prove it.
I took an unmodified scooter and put it to the test. I ran a scooter until it was completely empty and then
filled it with - not a gallon - but HALF a gallon (2 quarts) of gas! I took a portable Global Positioning
System (GPS) receiver that saved a "bread crumb" trail. The GPS captured my position throughout the
test. With this data, I could map the path I drove and show the scooter-friendly roads in Doylestown.
Bypass – no, other roads – YES!
My plan was to run it dry - flat out of gas! I started the ride at 4:42PM and finally ran out of gas at 7:20PM. I
ran that scooter for over two hours on two quarts of gas! The GPS said that I drove 31.6 miles on those
two quarts. This achieved a miles per gallon figure of 63.2 MILES PER GALLON - on a Sunday afternoon
with lots and lots of stop and go traffic.
I wanted to head in and out of Doylestown from all points of the compass. I drove into town one way,
then turned around and came in from another way. There is a scooter route in and out of Doylestown no
matter where you live in the area. Plus, scooters are FUN and many people I passed must have thought
so as well! You usually get a lot of friendly waves and “thumbs-ups” on a scooter - in two and a half
hours I got a LOT of waves!
Stop by our store in Sellersville and look over our products and let us show you how they will work for
you! We have new 2006 Hyosung DOT and EPA approved scooters with a two-year limited warranty
starting at $1,499 that you can ride with a valid automobile PA driver's license and insurance that
averages $85/year. Now that is a great total cost of ownership story!
Write your own story with a bike from MPG Motors!
